As we prepared to celebrate our 50th Anniversary last September it was evident that the Nashua Regional Planning Commission has a very rich past. Historic photos depict a very different Main Street in Nashua than the one we recognize today, while maps produced before the advent of GIS demonstrate just how far technology has come in 50 years. Yet as we dug back into our history, it also became apparent that we possess a number of photographs, slides, and documents whose content, origin, or purpose are unclear.
As a result, NRPC has created a Historical Documentation Committee to identify, inventory, and catalog NRPC’s archives. As part of this process, the committee will convert as much of the Commission’s collection as possible to an electronic format. Anything can not be converted will be cataloged and filed.
The Historical Documentation Committee will also be tasked with creating a list of past Commissioners. NRPC has several long time members whose “story” we would like to record as part of the historical archives of the commission.
While this long term project has no set deadlines, the committee will establish goals and objectives and report to NRPC’s Executive Committee on a regular basis. If you are interested in being part of this process, please contact Kerrie Diers at 603-424-2240 or kerried@nashuarpc.org. We are looking for assistance in digitizing files and identifying historic pictures and documents. We would also like to hear from you if you have historic pictures of the region or stories and experiences about NRPC to share.
