"The Road Less Salted" Workshop

Date ~ Thursday May 13, 2010

Time ~ 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM

Location ~ Hugh Gregg Coastal Conservation Center, Greenland, NH

Details ~ Testing over the last 25 years has indicated that chloride levels have increased steadily and substantially in New Hampshire’s freshwater streams, rivers, lakes, ponds, wetlands, and groundwater, including well water. In many small streams in southern and coastal New Hampshire, elevated chloride levels are so high that they threaten the health of sensitive fish species and smaller organisms that serve as their food source. There is no easy solution. At this time, the only way to prevent chloride from reaching surface and ground water is to reduce the amount applied to our roadways and parking lots without compromising safety.
